Hi,

Sorry for the cross posting but I know that design patterns are of
increasing interest to PHP developers. And this talk sounds really
interesting.

All the best, Grant

Hello hello,

The third Wednesday of the month is not that far away anymore!
If you are in the Auckland area on the 15th - please feel free to come
over for our next meetup!

This talk about concepts will be interesting not just to Python
developers, so bring your Java friends! (and no, this is not a trick,
they won't be set upon)

Craig Taube-Schock - "Design Patterns"
================================
Design patterns became a hot topic in software development when the
Gang of Four published "Design patterns". While the book was
published in 1995 and based on Erich Gamma's Ph.D. thesis, design
patterns were in common use in Smalltalk and Objective-C long before
1995.

While many have read the book, I would argue (based on my experiences
as a software developer) that few people really seem to fully
understand them and tend to be confined using design patterns poorly
and improperly. To address this, my approach to presenting design
patterns is to highlight the underlying analytic processes from which
design patterns are derived. Understanding these processes makes it
much easier for a developer to read about and understand the intent of
the various patterns.

About Me
================================
I started programming computers in 1982. I've consulted in software
development since 1987 and I received my Master's degree in 1994.  I
have developed software in many different areas (telephony, research,
web applications, banking and finance, railways and shipping, oil and
gas, electrical control systems, seismic analysis, retail applications
to name a few). I have used design patterns since the mid-80s where
they were well known to the Smalltalk community before they were
published by the Gang of Four.

I am currently doing a PhD in evaluating the design of medium and
large software systems.
