I've done an eGate integration and they were extremely helpful and their
sample code was excellent.

You're right - the eGate team's replies do seem a bit non-specific at
times. I suspect they may be under instructions not to be too helpful;
if they gave you sample code and got it wrong, they'd potentially be
liable.
You don't say what the first half of the integration is (ok, so
probably PHP, but is it using a framework or CMS of some kind?)
