I don't like the idea of extending {{NodeStore}} or the implementation classes
with such low-level concerns; the interface is intentionally narrow to give as
much freedom to implementations as possible. Garbage collection should IMHO be
treated as a lower level concern that the implementation exposes through the
separate MBean interface.
