[~shgupta], I think the architecture is fine. My concern is more from an 
outside view - I would like to avoid the notion that we introduce a new DS.
Would it be possible to rename the CachingFDS to FSDS so that this line

 CachingFDS = Caching layer + FileSystem Backend
{quote}
would essentially become
FSDS = Caching layer + FileSystem Backend
(with cache size 0 by default)?
