I've decided to split off the part that we do agree on (the TypeEditor change)
into a dedicated issue: OAK-5887, which offers better protection against
corruption and could be backported to 1.6 as well.
For the rest of the discussion, I'll attach an updated patch for trunk and the
party can continue until oak 1.8.
