I have found that a pair of silk socks (no, not the ladies' long-stocking
type) beneath nornmal wool socks works very well for the feet. Don't
exactly know which outdoor store(s) carries them.
For the hands, I swear by Gore-tex mitts. Long gone are the days when I
could xc ski with a thin pair of gloves (or gloves of any description
these days).
