I know this has been a topic of conversation in the past, but I just want a couple quick opinions/advice. I'm flying with United from Ottawa to San Diego for a couple weeks at the beginning of December and planning on taking my bike. I either want to buy or rent a "bike transport device" for this trip... as long as I'm reasonable confident that my bike will be transported safely. My friend told me they have bike boxes at MEC... not sure what the best way to go is or what the other options are.
