July expiraton may have bearish influence

This Friday marks the expiration of July options, an event that may
have a bearish influence, given the amount of expiring put options
that still have to be exercised on the Standard & Poor's 100 index.
"Since the stock market has been declining for the past few weeks,
there is more open interest in in-the-money expiring puts than calls,"
said Larry McMillan, president of options research firm McMillan
Analysis Corp in a note to clients. If OEX falls below 400, the sell
programs look to be sizeable enough to affect the stock market, he
said. McMillan typically looks at the OEX as an indicator of sentiment
during expiration week.
The OEX rose 3.24 points to 415.53.
