Altimo confirms interest in Indonesian mobile market, possible contender for Telkomsel or Indosat Altimo, the telecom arm of Russian private Alfa Group, has confirmed interest in the Indonesian mobile market, reported Kommersant, referring to an Altimo statement. This information came in the middle of a feature report, which said that the Indonesian government has ordered the Singaporean investment fund, Temasek, to divest its stakes in Indonesian telecoms Telkomsel or Indosat, within the next two years. <br> In a part of the report, Kommersant referred to a Singaporean paper The Straits Times. It wrote that the decision of the government anti- monopoly regulator (KPPU) was initiated by Altimo, which was hoping to convince the Singaporean government to buy Indosat from Tamasek, and re-sell it to Altimo. Altimo has not commented on the news, but confirmed interest in the Indonesian mobile market, Kommersant reported. <br> The paper also cited experts, who named Altimo as a main contender for one of Indonesian mobile telecoms. An analyst from Russian AK Bars Finans, cited in the report, has not ruled out the possibility that Altimo could be sold a stake in one of the Indonesian operators directly, and not via a tender. AK Bars Finans has valued 42% in Indosat at about USD 2.5bn, and 35% in Telkomsel at USD 1.8bn, the report noted.
