Indonesia's Inco H1 net profit falls 58.1 percent on lower nickel prices

JAKARTA (Thomson Financial) - Indonesian nickel miner PT International
Nickel Indonesia Tbk (Inco) said on Thursday its net profit for the first
six months to June fell 58.1 percent to $295.61 million from $707.01 million
a year before, driven by lower average prices of nickel in matte.

Sales dropped 37.2 percent to $819.16 million, while operating profit fell
57.4 percent to $412.66 million.

The company's earnings per share for the period was $0.030 compared to $0.
071 a year earlier.

PT Inco's major shareholders are CVRD Inco Ltd with a 60.8 percent stake and
Sumitomo Metal Mining Co Ltd with a 20.1 percent stake.

CVRD Inco, the nickel mining unit of Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD),
changed its name in November last year to Vale Inco Ltd, in line with the
re-branding of its parent company CVRD to Vale.
