Subject: RCID NEWS FLASH : ROBBERY WELTEVREDEN AVE.

TO ALL RCID RESIDENTS :

At approximately midday today a RCID resident residing in Muir Road was
robbed in Weltevreden Ave., (near Tullyallen Road) by two Black men who
pulled up in a Red Open Cub and asked for directions. They then threatened
him with a knife, tearing his shirt in the process and took his shoulder bag
containing his cell phone and wallet. ADT arrived on the scene as the men
were running towards their vehicle. No injuries incurred but no doubt a
very unpleasant experience.

Shortly thereafter there was an attempted housebreaking when suspects tried
to force a security gate open in Mulvihal Road. No access was gained. Both
ADT and the SAPS were on the scene.

WARNING !
There has been a sharp rise in incidents in the Fernwood / Bishopscourt /
Meadowridge areas and both ADT and the SAPS are on high alert in all areas
as crime does overflow into surrounding areas. There is a need for us to be
more vigilant. SAPS have asked to please pass on the following to you:

- Please make sure your security gates are kept closed and locked

- Be vigilant when entering and leaving your premises - if you feel
uncomfortable rather contact your security service provider for an escort

- If you are held up, we would advise that you do not resist and rather
hand over what you are asked for

- Do not look directly at the perpetrators and keep your movements slow

THEFT OUT OF MOTOR VEHICLES:
The police have also asked us to be extra careful about leaving items in
motor vehicles - there has been a sharp increase in the number of thefts out
of motor vehicles over the past few months.

Now that we have school holidays and many teenagers will be walking in the
streets, PLEASE ask your children NOT to talk on their cell phones while
walking in the street. They are sitting ducks for muggers. The Rondebosch
SAPS/ CPF and UCT Campus Control conducted a "Busted" campaign in the Main
Road Rondebosch yesterday afternoon and it was frightening to see how many
students were walking talking on their cell phones or walking with I-Pods in
their ears listening to music totally unaware of what was going on around
them.

TOGETHER WE MAKE RONDEBOSCH SAFER !

Regards
Shirley
