I think I just did something very stupid. I was in the front of the house at about 8 this morning when a cheerful black guy, well-built plus, 'ordinary' height, wearing a newish clean blue overall-type jacket, and a cap came by. He was looking my way so I greeted him. He then came to the gate and said could he come and see at the back because they were cutting brqnches. I first said "No, I don't let in people I don't know", then I let him go round the side. He kept saying he wanted to go through the house to the back and I said "No, go round the side" - though he showed me the branches - they do need cutting! He didn't go round the side and at that stage we should have kicked him out, but then he said could he have our phone numbers - and followed me into the house. Then I said No, you don't need the phone number and come when you've cut the branches. He was also wearing leather gloves - as tree cutting blokes do do.
Of course no one is cutting at the back and I was an IDIOT because I always say "NEVER let in someone you don't know". We should have said "Wait the till we go and check at the back." Then, I guess, he'd have vanished.
