Metro Police arrest suspects for possession of narcotics, counterfeit
goods and stolen property

Metro Police officers have arrested suspects for a wide range of
offences in the last week, mainly thanks to information received from
the public.

Members of the Substance Abuse Unit arrested a tow-truck driver in
Brackenfell on Friday, 01 October, for possession of stolen property
and transgressing the Post and Telecommunications Act. The officers
confiscated a hand radio, allegedly belonging to the South African
Police Services, which was found in his possession.

Later that day, Substance Abuse Unit officers arrested a suspected
drug high-flyer in Observatory for possession of illegal narcotics. A
tip-off from members of the public turned out to be correct and the
suspect was found with 11 packets of chronic dagga and one large bag
of dagga, with a total street value of R20 000.

Yesterday morning, 05 October, officers arrested one suspect in
Ravensmead after he was found in possession of possible counterfeit
goods. The officers had been conducting routine patrols when they
noticed a motorist acting suspiciously as he passed their patrol
vehicle. The officers pulled the vehicle over to test for vehicle and
driver fitness and found 200 cartons of possible counterfeit
cigarettes in his possession. The Customs Unit have been called in to
assist the Metro Police in determining whether the goods are
counterfeit or not.

Officers confiscated the following, amounting to R8010.00 in cash:

50 cartons of Pacific (20s)

69 cartons of Peter Stuyvesant (20s)

40 cartons of Rothmans (10s)

35 cartons of Rothmans (20s)

 2 cartons of Kent (20s)

 2 cartons of Craven A (20s)

 1 carton of Dunhill (20s)

1       carton of Chesterfield (20s)

Another two suspects were arrested for public violence as service
delivery protests action continued late into Tuesday night. The
protesters burned tyres close to the taxi rank in Site-C, Khayelitsha,
and threw stones at some of the Metro Police officers who were
conducting foot patrols in the area.
