This evening, the Woodstock Police, under the leadership our new head of visible policing, Major Wewers, are embarking on a special intensive visible policing operation in Observatory which will last until Tuesday. The idea is to flood the area with as many patrol officers and vans as possible. It is also the first time that a Police operation of this kind will be coordinated with the Observatory Improvement District patrollers. Now is the time to report any suspicious vehicles or activities to the Police through the following channels (in order of priority): - If you have an Obs Neighbourhood Watch radio, use that first. The Police will be carrying ONW radios. - Phone Constable Adams on 082 302 5242. He will answer if he can. - If you are a member of the main ONW Whatsapp group, post your message there with as much information as possible. The Police will be monitoring the messages on that group. - If you are not a member of the ONW Whatsapp group, post your message on your street Whatsapp group, and ask your representative to escalate it up to the main ONW Whatsapp group. - Only if all of the above fail, phone the Woodstock Police station on 021 442 3100. Please organise walk-abouts with your neighbours to get as many eyes and ears on the street as possible, and report any suspicious activity. If we can make this work, we can start a new era for Observatory.
