The Systems Engineer is responsible for the installation, monitoring and
management of all servers, proxy appliances, tape backup cycle, and FC SAN
storage infrastructure, as well as management and oversight of associated
hardware / software, and vendor communications. Responsibilities include
troubleshooting tickets from the Help Desk, day to day administration, short
and long term strategic planning and management, as well as other duties as
assigned. Experience supporting proxy servers, Microsoft servers, and VMware
server environments and technologies.

*Key Responsibilities:*
Install, configure, maintain, support and manage Microsoft Windows 2000 and
2003 servers across multiple locations, including Active Directory Domain
Controllers, Microsoft Domain Name Servers [DNS], Internet Information
Servers [IIS], and SQL servers (standalone).
Perform root cause analysis on persistent or major server related hardware,
software & application related problems.
All aspects of security surrounding Microsoft technologies. This includes
but is not limited to user authentication, file encryption and other
validation schemes. In addition, significant design and troubleshooting
experience for DNS, DHCP, based on Microsoft technologies.
Experience with deployment of Cisco Works in a large scale enterprise
network environment.
Administration of a large scale VMware Virtual Infrastructure Architecture,
Administration, and Support.
Management of Virtual Infrastructure through use of VMware Virtual Center.
Deploy and manage Trend Micro Anti-Virus Server to protect all servers in
production and to mitigate against viruses and intrusions.
Deploy and manage Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) server
patches to the datacenter.
Manage, maintain and support a multi-location domain, tape backup cycle and
storage infrastructure.
Manage the storage arrays on the HP StorageWorks MSA 1000 SAN, and the
storage capacity.
Experience in architecting storage for Virtual Infrastructure
Implementations and re-architecting storage to meet growing needs of
existing Virtual Infrastructure - which includes LUN planning, Capacity
Planning, and specifying hardware requirements for SAN infrastructure.
Maintain, manage, and monitor the BlueCoat proxy servers performance and
configuration.
Maintain, manage, and monitor the proxy access logs (Websense), RADIUS logs,
and the syslogs,
Participate in monthly Microsoft Patch Meeting and schedule Request For
Change on non-patched servers.
Participate in Request For Change weekly meetings to discuss proposed
designs or proposed changes.
Coordinate with NACR to patch their Microsoft Servers and represent them on
the Microsoft Patch Meetings.
Communicate, process, and deliver Special Recovery (SR) Websense reports for
NG in a timely fashion.
Maintain the Cisco Call Managers Microsoft Updates patched and also
compliant to Cisco Systems standards.
Maintain and manage the White List and Black List for the COSD and SDCL
BlueCoat proxy servers.
Maintain and manage the Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold Monitoring system to monitor
devices and SMS alerting to the rest of the team.
Monitor and manage the server environment RAM, Hard Disk, and CPU capacity.
Responsible for actively monitoring the health of the datacenter such as
checking for hardware malfunctions, amber error lights, defective hard
drives.
Maintain high availability for the County of San Diego critical application
servers such as the RADIUS, and Windows Certificate Servers.
Hands-on experience with system backups (Veritas Netbackup), scheduling,
server capacity, monitoring (WhatsUp Gold) and performance analysis /
tuning. Strong familiarity with Microsoft Clustering, antivirus solutions
(Trend Micro preferred), DNS, DHCP, RAID, server hardware, networking and FC
SAN technologies (HP StorageWorks MSA 1000) and administration.
In-depth knowledge of Active Directory (AD), domain controllers and
replication, Microsoft Active Directory Integrated DNS, LAN/WAN topology, IT
processes and procedures, security, and systems implementations.
Manage, and maintain Linux/UNIX operating systems.
Configuring, securing, managing and maintaining a highly available Windows
NT / 2000 / 2003 active directory based environment.
Strong working knowledge including the ability to setup, configure, upgrade,
manage, and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Standard and Enterprise.
Responsible for documenting Microsoft Visio server/network architecture
diagrams of the environment.
* Three (3) years of professional, hands-on experience with large scale
VMWare ESX 2.5.x of VI3 environments, both in development and production
settings.
* Three (3) years of professional experience using command line, shell
scripts and other Linux/Unix concepts (e.g. console OS of VMWare ESX)
* Windows skills.
* Firm understanding of Windows and WMWare system administration and
security, such as file sharing and permissions, event logging, performance
monitoring and disk administration, optimally in a SAN/NAS environment.
* Active Directory, Proxy, DNS, WINS, DHCP, Certificate servers and voice
application servers.
* TCP/IP Networks and Server-related networking.
* Familiarity with Wintel hardware support such as CPU, memory and disk
maintenance with DELL/HP Servers, BlueCat/BlueCoat appliances.
* Preferred: 2-year college education or higher.
