I just did a google, and found http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk/help/toolbox/symbolic/index.html?/access/helpdesk/help/toolbox/symbolic/heaviside.html&http://www.google.dk/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=matlab+heaviside which explicitly mentions that heaviside(0) is 0.5. That's in the 'symbolic' toolbox. Perhaps Mathworks has a different behaviour in a different toolbox?
