I think that using the standard would be best, if possible, even if there is
a reasonably small performance cost (I don't know if or why that might
happen). Open MPI is only one of a number of implementations. MPICH has a
lot of users, and LAM/MPI still does, too, I would guess. Intel MPI probably
does too. Who knows when another will appear.
