Before you ask the problem, please try the same script at the latest 
gnuplot-4.5 (cvs) (2009-11-26) 
at 
http://www.tatsuromatsuoka.com/gnuplot/Eng/winbin/

The gnuplot bundled with octave is rather bit old (4.3.0-2009-07-08) but 
modified for octave.
