I don't understand the question. Basically, Octave treats '#' and '%'
the same way.

I guess the right thing to do is to treat Matlab and Octave as two
different languages. It could be implemented fairly simple, by letting
the Octave language specification inherit the Matlab language
specification. From an end-user point of view, this would, however, not
be so great as we would then be forced to choose between using Octave
high-lighting or Matlab high-lighting, so I don't like this approach.

Basically, I believe that a Free Software project like GtkSourceView
should treat Free Software products such as Octave as first-class
citizens and proprietary products and as such should have a preference
to the Octave way of doing things.
