Dear Maffei, I do not have any experiences with Macs. I looked in google the error message "file was built for unsupported file format which is not the architecture being linked", and I found the following discussion:

If your octave is 32-bit, then you need compile netcdf and octcdf also in 32-bit (using the option -arch i386, as explained in the link above). I'm cc'ing the octave-forge mailing list, maybe somebody knowledgeable in Macs can confirm this.
