Thanks Alex. I have managed to build octcdf-1.1.2 from sourcforge with octave-3.4 (available in MacPorts as octave-devel@3.4.0).
Installing octcdf from MacPorts does not work since the dependency for octcdf is 'octave' which is octave-3.2.x in MacPorts and this version of octave does not work with octcdf. For those who still find difficulties in installing octcdf in Mac OS X, you can install octave-devel_3.4.0 from MacPorts, then download the octcdf-1.1.2 source files from the sourceforge. Issuing the command: 'pkg install /absolute_path_to/octcdf-1.1.2.tar.gz' just work perfectly well. I have done this and it seems to be working without any problem. Jack.
