I was referring to the option 

 --enable-dl             allow loading of dynamically linked modules (not all
                          systems)

You will not be able to install packages from Octave-forge (at least those that 
include 
some part written in c++, like specfun) unless you enable this.

I don't know if this requires --enable-shared, if this is the case I am afraid 
you'll have
to use a different version of BLAS.
