Hi,
I see there are a lots of interesting topics under discussion.
I feel like proposing a solution that may suit Alois and the Core people.

Why not create a class that can handle missing data and this class has
methods that overload all the functions that nan shadows?

If Alois agree with this, we could add it to the GSoC list of projects
and him as a mentor. @Alois: What do you think?

Of course I could help when possible.

Does this make sense?
