Unless Si has opinions on this, I'll go ahead and redo the second part of the patch to add a user input and prepopulate it from the the ftl. While i'm at it and perhaps not for this patch, the create "virtual from variant" part of the screen doesn't seem very user friendly. I might tidy it up which may allow for more room on the main form.
