Except I thought the compression was lossy not loss-less... Therefore not a
viable mechanism for digital data but rather only good for waveform data.... If
you can turn off compression you could of course write .zip or some other 
compressed form to the drive...

what about a USB HP rewritable -- that oughta give the best solution since most
CDROM (post '97) can read CDRW disks...
