I've been testing ZoneAlarm as a free for home use product from
www.zonealarm.com that provides all that you want. It allows per program
privileges for accessing the local net (a user definable area), the
internet and it if is allowed to server ports for external use.
Its been quite amazing the number of people how have probed my machine on
the NetBIOS so far just today 8-) I'm connecting to i4Free to see how well
things work connecting to the office via a VPN and thought that a fire
wall would be a good investment.
Another product worth having a look at is BlackICE Defender, but after
looking at it I found that it didn't appear to have the same find grained
control of access by program.
Cheers, Max.
