Intel are about to announce a new Xeon 2Ghz with 512K cache versus the
current 256K cache of most CPU's. How many $ are you going to spend? Xeon is
designed for multi-processor systems, so if you are only single CPU probably
not much point.
Our latest machines are AMD K6 running at 1.2Ghz - quite good really (for
about $2.7K base price).
Fast enough for D6 but only just fast enough for the Java apps.
