I don't use XP but I do use the MS NGs and yes. it is a big issue
there at the moment. You could always set up a new hotmail account
and post using that address through Google Groups and only read
the answers from your news reader.
I would try uninstalling all those updates so none of the problem ones
are installed and then reinstall them. That way you may get rid of
what ever is not happening when you install the update.
You did not run any e-mailed patch from MS - did you? ;-)

Subject: [DUG-OFFTOPIC]: on the subject of Xp
Just briefly,
I'm too scarred at the moment to post to MS newsgroups, somehow got hammered with spam
and bogus bounces last time even thoughh I
posted sensibly.
Has any one had these things happen to them,
1) Xp update keeps saying that there is a new update to install - auto downloaded
already - but its always the same update. It
seems according to "update history" that it has already updated with the same update
some 17 times now I think. ALso tells me to let
it do security updates that have been done weeks before. (Yes I do run an updated
virus checker!)
2) When you are in Xp help egine (for Xp issues) and you click on any link in the
help system, instead of jumping to the link or
opening the control panel or what ever is supposed to happen, any small icon in the
help page is replicated for each click that you
make on the jump link. You end up with a line of small icons going accross the page as
shown here (if images pass throught the
offtopic server scripts).
Anyon solved these ones?
TIA
