I don't believe aero works in either VMWare or Virtual PC. Running
VMWare 6 RC I can definitely say aero doesn't work. Haven't tried VPC.
I am running in VMWare with 512 allocated to Vista VM leave 512 for
the host (Win2000). I think a base Vista VM is recommended to be
20gig. VMWare allocates in chunks (if you want it to), not sure what
VPC does.
