Its all about what you say in the cover letter. A good ending is something like 'I look forward to demonstrating ..... in person'. My father in law writes all my wives cover letters (he is very good at it) and she ALLWAYS gets an interview (and usually the job). All this and she has no quals to speak of, I remain suitably impressed !
