I have my laptop at least 60cm away from my seat at work. I still preferred the higher res, however I did lower it in the end because 1) I was sick of the complaints and b) web development with such a high res can be soooo inaccurate

I doubt I'd be able to work productively with that resolution if the laptop was the same distance away as a normal monitor would be. Just waiting for the 23inch lcds that do (1920x1200) to reduce in price.
