Hi Jeremy,
It sounds a bit strange because you talk about "bits", but bits only
have values of 0 or 1, not 8. However, a bit in that particular
position would have a nibble value of 8 for those first four bits.
So, perhaps it's simply saying that if you do a bitwise "and" with hex
80 you will get bit 7. Continuing this, you can get bit 6 by doing a
bitwise "and" with 40, and so on through 20, 10, 08, 04, 02, and 01.
Perhaps it would make more sense if we knew what it was talking about?

does not seem to add up at all !!
