Hey,

So after our call today, there's still something that's not sitting
quite right with me [1]

http://www.genunix.org/wiki/index.php/OGB_2008/010

Towards the end of the call, we changed the Electorate collective to
having the following 2 roles -

Member: Member of the Electorate group. By definition, a voting
member of the OpenSolaris community
Leader: A Participant of any of the above entities who has been
elected to the OpenSolaris Governing
                 Board by the Members.

While I like the idea of having a consistent set of roles across the
different collectives, I think Electorate stands out a little from the
rest, particularly in where work gets done within the wider community,
and that the roles should reflect this.

My suggestion for changing 'Contributor' to 'Member' was that we
needed something to ensure that the active people in our community
felt like they were part of a wider entity - something that unites us
all, something to feel a part of.

Which is why I'm a little uncomfortable with the role 'Leader' in this
context, and I believe it takes away focus from our intent, to
encourage leaders to step forward in their respective areas, and gain
recognition from their peers. The people doing the work should be
right get to make the decisions. The OGB doesn't really 'lead' in the
same way. We need to ensure the overall well being of the project, an
important role in itself, but we also need to encourage the decision
making back down into where the work is getting done.

I'd like to propose we use the term 'Board Member' rather than 'Leader'.

I don't believe this would be confusing to people - there seem to be a
lot of other open source communities with this sort of structure, and
I believe it can work for us too.

with my nitpicks on naming today
