OGB Call :: Wednesday 2nd May, 2007
Present: Alan, Casper, Glynn, Keith, Rich, Steve
Regrets: Jim
1) Project Creation guidelines
Keith made some minor edits to the document, with no feedback thus far.
ACTION: Keith to post policy on the OGB website, along with a mail
to opensolaris-discuss and opensolaris-announce about the
new policy and project-announce alias.
2) Project / Community Group Re-organization
Steve had some objections from the DTrace, MDB and a few other communities
that objected to being projects. Steve suggested that the OGB shouldn't
enforce this. Steve proposed to clean up the dead or stagnant communities,
and those that wanted to be a project could do so. Steve also suggested a
6 month regular cleanup and re-assessment.
Casper commented that the scope for the Device Drivers group was very
broad, and it might be better to re-organize in associated communities
eg. Network.
Steve worried about what would happen to those people who might not be
able to get core contributor status because they fell through the
cracks. Keith commented that we should figure out how a community group
might have or should perform its duties, and perhaps divide those across
associated communities for continuity. He suggested breaking it up, 3
communities at a time and try and get an understanding of what they would
like to accomplish, and how they would like to be structured.
ACTION: Keith to ask Mike about the MDB community, and what he'd like to
achieve with it.
Keith asked if it was worth putting together a project lifecycle document.
John Plocher was interested in seeing this. A project would have a set of
statuses once it had accomplished it's goals - failed, archived, etc..
ACTION: Keith to start writing a project lifecycle document draft.
Keith also asked if it anyone was interested in figuring out the last
part - how projects go about their goals, in terms of project operation
and responsibilities eg. filling in SCAs, infrastructure, etc..
3) Marriage
Congratulations to Steve and best wishes for his upcoming marriage.
