Not entirely true... there are plenty on non-Sun people who are ops, namely:
jamesd, asyd, sparc-kly, benr, nrubsig, tempt, and myself.

But yes, I would agree that the general attitude towards new members in 
#opensolaris is pretty poor.  I'm almost always lurking in the channel 
though not always watching it actively.  If you see inappropriate 
behaviour, please let me know certainly.
