Tall and strong defender who can play on the flank or in the centre and he
can also bring the ball out of the defence. His passing is raw and he can be
clumsy in the challenge but he is a very fast player who has progressed a
long way in his all round play over the last six months.

18 games, 0 goals.
Was a surprise during the first part of the second division, and became a
wanted man at the end of 1998. Sold to first division club Bologna in
January for $3,5 million, but the transfer was stopped by the umpteenth
injury that
has caught him again. Recovered at the end of the season, and could perhaps
arrive in Bologna next season. The only one of Reggiana's five Nigerians
that really proved to be a good player.

Lagos (P.M. News, August 31, 1999) - Lucerno star defender, and Nigerian
international, Jero Shakpoke has sent a clarion call to the national
Under-23 coach, Willy Bazuaye, that he is ever ready to play for the country
at the African elimination series for the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

LAGOS, June 29 (Soccer Services) - Two Nigerian Internationals Jero Shakpoke
and Celestine Babayaro are currently been considered for the National U-23
team, which has recently qualified for the final rounds of the Sydney 2000
Olympic qualifiers.

The Nigerian Football Association NFA is hoping that the presence of both
players in the squad will make it stronger considering the team's poor
performance against Namibia in Windhoek last Sunday.

Most Nigerians were disturbed that the team, which won the first leg 4-0 in
Lagos, could crumble easily in Windhoek.

It will be recalled that Celestine Babayaro played a vital role during the
Atlanta '96 Olympics where Nigeria won the gold. He was also at the last
World Cup in France. Jero Shakpoke on the other hand missed the France '98
World Cup narrowly after sustaining an injury in an international friendly
against Holland.

Celestine Babayaro is based in England with Chelsea F.C. while Jero
Shakpoke currently plays in Italy.
