Title: RE: ooooo... traveller... (was: [ogf-d20-l] Everything old is newagain department...)

Someone mentioned a few days back (sorry, I get way too many e-mails just from this list to be keeping the old ones) that a good reason for discussing Traveller was to look at the possibility of the d20 system to be used elsewhere.

I agree with whoever said that d20 is not a system unto itself. It is the framework for building a system upon. So here's the question, what kind of games can you make based on the d20 framework. So far we have fantasy games.. Aka. the D&D system. This includes the Greyhawk and Forgotten Realms settings. Doing Dragonlance I think requires a certain extra ammount of effort considering the differences in races and classes. And Necromancer's Scarred Lands setting, which while different, will still follow most of D&D.

Soon there will be a Star Wars system.. a massive rework to include Force type powers into that. The interesting thing here is how closely the System and the Setting are linked. Any ideas on alternate campaign settings within the Star Wars system?

There have been some discussions on Traveller obviously. We're looking at creating a Traveller system based upon the d20 framework. (Sorry I'm trying to define terms here). That will take place within the vast scope that is the Traveller Campaing setting.

So out of curiosity, what are the limitations of the framework? What games can and can't you make? White wolf has a background system that there isn't a comparable setup for in d20. What about Chaosiums Sanity system? the GURPS point system for giving out flaws and weaknesses? Is d20 all that or could it use work. If it's Open then there is no excuse for it sucking because we get to fix it.
