Alex, much worse things are said on tv and the
radio. Badass is very mild, and you could include the disclaimer for
concerned parents if you liked. I would suggest using profanity
sparingly--just enough to bring that "edge" you are looking for.
I've been reading White Wolf's Mage, which uses
profanity, and its presence hasn't been offending to me. Having grown up
reading TSR products, it was a bit of a shock to see it, but it worked for the
product. Anyway, they have a disclaimer in the book that apologizes more
for the theme of the work (i.e., "mature themes"), not so much the
language.
Basically, go for it!
