There is certainly a doom-laden, all-caps-writing hysteria about electronic
reproduction issues in the contemporary debate taking place elsewhere. My
intent was to open discussion about that hysteria, rather than to
participate in it myself. If any of my posts have been seen as issuing
threats, rather than describing things that others appear to be threatened
by, I completely failed in this intent and I offer my apologies.

The fruits of this speculation have been very interesting and illuminating
for me. I hope I'm not the only one for whom this is true; if so, it's
probably because I'm a newcomer to the list. It seems to me that much of the
local traffic is speculation, an appropriate intellectual tool to be using
in an emerging field. I look forward to hanging around here long enough to
become jaded by it, and to being able to put some of these interesting ideas
into practice.
