Greetings to everyone.

First of all, excuse me if this question has already been answered previously. I've tried several times to access to the archives of this mailing list, but I got a 403 "forbidden access" error. I've also searched everywhere for info about my problem first, without success.

I'm developing an Open system for Role-Playing games. It's just a bunch of rules that define the "core rules" of the game and character creation, and some guidance about creating skills, items, monsters, etc. It doesn't have predefined characters/adventures/background (a RPG could come later, using the core rules of the system).

I don't pretend to compete with other game systems. I just made it for fun with some design goals in mind. However, I want to be sure that anybody who wants to use it, will have right to do so (commercial products included) without having to ask me permission first (of course, they can't charge for just the core rules, because they're intended to be Open)

The problem arises when I try to add a logo to identify products as 'compatible with XXXX-system'. I have never done it before, so I don't know what steps should I follow, taking into account that:
a) I don't want to pay a fee in every country every ten years to have the trademark of the logo, just to let people use it if they wish.
b) I want people to include it only in books/games/websites which are XXXX-system related or XXXX-system compatible, to avoid scams (not that I think anybody would do that, but to keep it safe).
c) I don't want to find someone claiming he has ownership of my logo, and pursue me and everyone using it to pay a fee, or remove it from every book/game/website.
d) I don't want to let people modify it without asking permission (except a reasonable resize of it, of course). I want to keep it recognizable, but allow some color variations of it.

If someone is so glad to help me, thanks in advance.
Carlos

NOTE: If there's the need to verify some laws, take into account that I'm not from USA, but from Western Europe. Thank you.
