When you get hit, doesn't that help you to learn what to do to avoid
getting hit again? Isn't part of the idea behind "Hit Points" to be
able to "Shake off" a blow? Well you don't learn to shake off a blow by
hitting others, you learn it by being hit yourself. If you walk into a
wall, do you do it repeatedly (no, you learn not to). The first time
you drive to a new store, don't you learn where that store is, so that
it is easier to find the next time (you learn)? When you travel to a
different country, don't you learn a little bit about the new culture or
the new surroundings?
The XP gained from such things are small, but they are a part of the
learning experience. That is why Rolemaster is BY FAR the best RPG
around. Unlike D&D where you learn to make clocks better by killing
things and finding gold (figure that one out???). That is also why I
had dumped D&D as a gaming system (due to being very disappointed with
it) over 15 years ago, but I admit it has been greatly improved, but it
still isn't as realistic, flexible, and complete as RM.
