OK, up until now, I've been treating this as rumor. Why? Because it just sounded too DUMB to be true. But apparently, dumb wins. Why dumb? Because it's just too soon. Maybe the changes will be good, but it's too soon to expect people to buy a new book. Heck, I'm known for irresponsible game purchases (the stories I could tell would be embarassing), but even I won't be shelling out money for a book that ISN'T a new edition, just tweaks and reorganization. You say that I'm not their target audience? That they're trying to make books that are friendlier and easier, to win over folks who aren't buying because the books need better organization? Maybe. The PHB is a massive bestseller already, though (as games go); so how large is that market? And if it's NOT large, then they won't be able to get the volume pricing that contributed to their initial sales success. They've got better market research and sales figures than I do.
