I have narrowed this down to line 2865 and line 2866 in `autotest.hss`

```
    walk hero(me, right, 3)  # two tiles onto harm, then one off
    wait for hero(me)
```
This line causes the hero to walk over a harm tile while the caterpillar party 
is hidden.

The first time the `test damage patterns` script is invoked this action only 
harms the leader (as expected)

The second time  `test damage patterns`, **only on Mac**, this same action 
damages the whole party.
