The "near dead technology" is in fact quite widely used. Until HTML 5 support has been reliably available for several years, web sites will continue to depend on Flash. It costs money to develop new web sites.
Sites catering the cell phones are the ones which will dump Flash first.
Regardless, there are still many things more important than the Flash support. Assuring that basic desktop features work and that recent versions of popular applications work with the desktop is more important.
