OK but the rolling release is some sort of release.
Also note that TeX Live definitely uses years like 2020, 2021 , 2022 as yearly releases. I'm not sure what the /etc/release contents is, but indeed I agree, if required the user should pkg update -f before installing Perl Tk with pkg install tk-perl. That's just what I approximately had in mind when writing "OpenIndiana 2022 or higher".
