sorry, I'm a bad person, just getting around to trying out -d half -d depth.Z=float, it seems to corrupt the image:
here's my command (version 1.2.1) oiiotool /var/tmp/testdeep.exr --compression ZIPS -d half -d depth.Z=float --scanline --autotrim --attrib order "" -o /var/tmp/out.1060.half.exr i'll attach the smaller input exr to this email
