The Deb-o-Matic infrastructure is an almost-identical process of the official buildd.debian.org infrastructure. It implies no network access and does a lot of checks on the packages. It's then more reliable than any pbuilder local environment that could be affected by user choices. Most of the problem here could be related to the massive gcc-5 transition that is taking place on the Debian archives these days. Probably, part of the archive has been already re-built using gcc-5 while some others are not yet. Later today I'll try to do some test builds using both gcc-4.9.x and gcc-5.2.x, while even test if building against ilmbase/openexr 2.2.0 could solve the problem, given that at present time both are still stuck on 1.x.y versions in unstable/sid suite.
