No, not demanding at all!  It's a reasonable request, I just don't know enough 
about pckconfig to implement it myself (without sinking a whole bunch of time 
into learning it).

I assume things wouldn't break anything for people/systems who don't have the 
pkgconfig stuff set up for openexr.
