A follow-up on this matter for those with an interest:
I'm in contact now with RED, and it is exactly as we suspected: The SDK was
once distributed under NDA, and the license language still has some relics
reflecting that time. They do not have any desire to prevent OIIO from making
calls to the SDK; in fact they are very supportive of the idea. I've got some
formalities to finalize to make sure we have an ultra-clear statement to that
effect on record, but I expect to have this wrapped up quickly.
So if anybody wants to do the actual development work to add a RED reader to
OIIO... it would be great to have a volunteer speak up. As usual, it would
really be best if it is somebody whose company needs that functionality, so
that they'll be motivated to do it quickly and correctly and to help maintain
it going forward.
