I batted this idea around and there is definitely strong interest.
I don't think we need a walkthrough of the detailed mechanics unless you think
it would be particularly instructive. But an overview of the process would be
helpful. I think for a lot of the project teams, they have only a murky idea of
how their projects get into the distros, don't realize that the volunteers who
do the work probably handle many projects at once and aren't often experts in
the internals or build systems of any of them.
I think the most important part of such a talk would be your "top N" list of
things that happen on the project side that make your life more difficult or
easier, what we most need to know about what happens downstream that would
guide us to good practices ("good" meaning: that allow distros to stay closer
to our latest releases and for their maintainers to think we're an easy
project), and what we should keep in mind in terms of cross-project
interactions that might have unintended consequences.
